General Terminology
The central LPG system is a system that uses the manifold or bulk system with connection equipment (such as shut-off valves, pressure regulators, slam shut-off valve, safety relief valves, vaporizers …) and a pipeline system to connect many gas cylinders or gas tank with different pipeline routes to the location of use for each period of use.
All systems will be closed, measured and checked by LPG meters, and the LPG leak detecting system and solenoid valve will be synchronized to the central control system to ensure maximum safety for complex, hotel or factory customers….
Overfilling the gas (LPG) bulk or cylinder could lead to problems when the propane expands, such as leaks or even explosions, causing property damage and even injury or death.
The risk of overfilling is complicated by the fact that the liquid in the tank or cylinder will expand in warmer weather as pressure in the tank increases. The tank may also cause the relief valve to open and spill gas (LPG) onto the ground.
In the kitchen or production area, there are many gas stoves in continuous use. When using individual cylinder or 12kg cylinders can cause many inadequacies such as:
- Occupying the space below the kitchen or production areas;
- Causing unsafety in case of gas leak, fire or explosion;
- Inconvenient, time consuming when changing gas…
Central LPG system is considered as a properly alternative option to tackle the above inconveniences, unsafe disadvantages, especially with LPG detectors, Solenoid valves synchronized with the Central automatic shut-off system in urgent cases.
Safety
Use of commercial LPG most safely relies on the selection of the right commercial LPG suppliers (good brandname, trusted by premium customers or well known safety-oriented mindset) with well-trained, and highly customer-oriented technicians via some following attentions::
- Ensuring the system design and installation is complied with safety standards (local fire codes, NFPA, Shell …) and certified by 3rd Party before being put into operation;
- Key pressurized equipment accessories, including specialized hoses, O-rings … are manufactured from big and world reputable brands, and LPG hoses with letters printed for LPG use;
- Cross-checking integrity of the seals, cylinder brand name, seal, weight of the cylinder and bulk truck, inspection date of the cylinder or bulk;
- Periodical check up or maintenance by LPG supplier like yearly high pressure test, leaking check with soapy water …;
- Yearly LPG safety training by LPG supplier like common mistakes in using LPG and how to handle or escape in urgent cases;
- Using PPE (gloves, steel toe shoes, goggles) when contacting or operating liquid LPG system (LOT);
- No using cellphone inside LPG storage;
- Locking all the valve of the system after working shift or leaving for home;
- Never using refilled mini LPG steel cans.
- Do not turn on and off electrical appliances, do not turn on fire sources such as gas stoves, lighters or naked electrical equipment;
- Push the ESD, close the main valves and LPG cylinder valves;
- Warn and notify all people nearby to prevent the contact with ignition sources and sparks;
- Open the door to naturally ventilate the LPG leak area to disperse the LPG vapor (do not use electric fans and electric ventilation fans);
- For small leaks, it is necessary to find the leak location immediately with soapy water and take measures to limit the amount of LPG escaping (eg, use a tight rubber band, use glue, soap to seal the leak…) if possible;
- Immediately call NHIEN LIEU XANH GAS for a comprehensive and safe treatment solutions.
- Evacuate all people to the safe distance located upwind;
- Quickly push the ESD, cutting off the LPG source by:closing the main valves, LPG cylinder/tank valves;
- Use means such as: fire extinguisher or wet blanket to put out the fire;
- If the gas cylinder is threatened by another fire, it should be moved to a safe place, in case it cannot be transported, spray cooling water;
- Call both LPG supplier or a professional fire brigade.
-
- Only trained personnel should respond to an emergency involving LPG. Other personnel should be evacuated at a safe distance located upwind;
- Do not use a flame to detect a leak. Soapy water may be used to test if a LPG cylinder or connection points on the system are leaking. Use an explosion proof LPG detector to determine the presence and concentration of flammable LPG in an indoor location. Where permanently installed, LPG detectors and alarm should be visible and audible. Workers should be familiar with the alarm system and its warning sounds;
- If a LPG cylinder leaks, tighten the valve, attach a tag indicating that the cylinder is damaged and contains flammable gas, and store it in a well-ventilated area. Contact the supplier for instructions on returning the LPG leaking cylinder;
- In case of a fire caused by flammable gas, shut off the gas supply to extinguish the fire if it is safe to do so. Attempting to extinguish the fire without shutting off the fuel supply will not prevent the LPG from escaping and accumulating in the atmosphere at hazardous levels. The fire extinguishers provided in the area are intended to extinguish small fires near the location of the LPG cylinders or tanks;
- Call both LPG supplier or a professional fire brigade.
*Note: LPG Cylinders or tank exposed to fire may vent and release the flammable gas through safety pressure relief devices.
- Store outside in a safely designated areas or in a well ventilated area, be carried and stored upright at all times;
- Do not store or use petrol, flammable liquids or aerosols near LPG cylinders;
- Ensure valves are turned off firmly when not in use;
- Only use explosion proof electrical equipment with fittings and connection of electrical enclosure;
- Have safety waring signs with the dos and don’ts and what to do in an emergency;
- Keep the doors unlocked all the time.
Technicality
Domestic gas (LPG) cylinder or POL valve cylinder is designed for heating activities via natural vaporization with upright position while using.
While cylinder for LPG-powered forklift truck (Flt) is designed with typically technical and safety equipment like horizontal position, liquid withdrawal tube, check valve, excess flow valve, ACME thread valve & couplings … which not only optimize the fuel efficiency but also preventing potential liquid LPG risks like cold burns, even fire and explosion.
Gas (LPG) is colorless and virtually odorless and completely non-toxic to users as well as to the environment. When ignited, the gas always burns out even in the event of a red flame.
Combustion products only produce carbon dioxide (CO2) and water vapor – the other components are completely non-toxic. The problem only occurs when using LPG-powered stoves or burners, gas (LPG) cylinders in closed rooms. If the gas leaks out due to negligence, the gas will spread, rise from the bottom to the top (because it is heavier than air), take up space, gradually push the air out, causing asphyxiation.
When gas burns in a closed room, if there is no proper ventilation, it will gradually accumulate, reducing the concentration of oxygen in the air. Therefore, it is necessary to strictly follow the regulations for users.
Fuel Efficiency
The improvement of LPG or fuel effieciency comes from the right system design, pipe size, correct specs of the equipment that reduces heating loss caused by pressure drops, unstable flow rates with longer time of heating or cooking activities.
When LPG quantity inside cylinders are used almost 50%, especially in winter, pressure will drop which causes dramatically slow flow rate. This will prolong the heating or cooking process, causing more heating loss or less fuel efficiency.
